I’m a firm believer that we are individuals with different needs and requirements, and this applies to counselling/psychotherapy too, so with this in mind I tailor the counselling to suit your needs.

I work in a very relational way using the Person Centred approach. For more about this, see my About me page. I share my thoughts with you whenever appropriate rather than merely being a listener. I offer acceptance, warmth and kindness allowing you the freedom to explore your worries and concerns.

I see counselling as a collaborative journey. It’s not about me ‘fixing’ or you just talking; it’s an active process which takes place in a safe and confidential environment. I like to integrate other models of counselling as I get to know you, to suit your individual needs and expectations; one size does not fit all. You may need different levels of support at different times, and I believe you know what feels right for you. Counselling is a journey of self-awareness and discovery that creates increased self-worth and confidence, reducing depression, anxiety and an increase in positive personal and intimate relationships.

Working Creatively in Counselling/Psychotherapy

I offer the opportunity to work creatively, and it can be used for people of all ages. It can be helpful when words are not enough to explain how low you may feel. Areas of your life that may appear blocked and stuck are given expression in the form of a creative activity, bringing a new dimension and an improved sense of well-being. This can empower you to discover meaning and gain greater understanding of yourself. Working creatively can bring a positive balance to talking therapy, and may involve working with music, art materials, role play, writing and walking therapy.

Art therapy combined with counselling/psychotherapy can support you if you're suffering from anxiety, relationship problems or depression.

Most people at some time in their life feel anxious or suffer from depression due to life changing circumstances. There could be a number of reasons, but it's often due to relationship difficulties; growing apart from long term partners; separation/divorce; or the loss of a loved family member.

Anxiety and depression are often symptomatic of life not feeling satisfactory and safe; they can be linked to early childhood trauma and abuse. Our past can impact on present day relationships and living life to our full potential. Both adults and children can suffer from these difficulties.

Assessment and Contracting

During our first meeting, also called the initial assessment, my priority is for you to feel welcomed and to reduce the stress that may come with taking that first step into counselling. We will work together to look at your concerns and what you want to achieve; it gives you time to consider if I am the right person for you to work with. The practical and formal side will outline the limitations of confidentiality within a counselling contract. What is a counselling contract?
